Make the syrup: In a small saucepan over high heat bring to boil: 1 cup sugar 1 cup water 3 wide strips orange peel

Reduce heat to low; simmer 3 minutes, until the sugar dissolves. Let syrup cool; discard orange peel.

In a blender puree 8 cups watermelon cubes until smooth. Strain through a fine-mesh strainer into a pitcher, pressing solids. (You should have 1 cup juice.) Stir in syrup, 1 cup lime juice, and 2 cups white or silver tequila.

Serve over ice in salt-rimmed glasses. Garnish with watermelon wedges.
