This is the recipe my mother always used for macaroni & cheese while I was growing up. The recipe came from her Betty Crocker Cookbook, in which it is called "Pioneer Macaroni and Cheese."
4 cups hot drained boiled macaroni (8 oz. uncooked) Dots of butter (2 T. in all) 1-1/4 cups cut-up sharp cheese (1/2" cubes, 1/3 lb.) 1 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. black pepper
Combine and pour over:
2 eggs, beaten 3 cups milk
Sprinkle with paprika.
BAKE at 350 degrees until golden brown on top (40-50 minutes). Serve hot from baking dish, garnished, if desired, with parsley sprigs, pepper rings, etc.
We used to eat this favorite comfort food with ketchup.
